• Pacific Grove elementary schools in top 5 at JUST RUN! 

    Thirty-five hundred participants from 35 Monterey County schools took part in the Big Sur Marathon’s fun run Saturday morning.   The JUST RUN! Just Kids 3K (or approximately 2 mile) race took place along Ocean View Blvd. in Pacific Grove.

    A cash purse totalling $12,550 was awarded to 20 schools who registered runners in the race. The distributions were made based upon the number of students as well as the percentage of total student body. Cash bonuses and special plaques were awarded to schools who are enrolled in the JUST RUN youth fitness program. Olympic marathoner Blake Russell assisted the JUST RUN team in presenting the awards.just run! web

    Robert Down Elementary placed first in percentage of student body participating, earning $1,300. Forest Grove came in fourth and took home $600.

    In the category for schools of less than 250 students, Monterey Bay charter of Pacific Grove placed second in participants for a purse of $800 while Stevenson placed fourth and won $400.

    4th: Stevenson Lower ($400)
    5th: Washington Union ($300)

    2nd: Graves ($800)
    3rd: Chartwell ($600)
    4th: La Joya ($100)
    5th: Mission Union ($300)

    The JUST RUN! Just Kids 3K is a semi-annual event held in conjunction with the Big Sur International Marathon each April and the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay.  It serves as a ‘goal race’ for students enrolled in the marathon’s JUST RUN youth fitness program, and as a community event for children and their families.
