• Baseball: Breakers down Padres in Extra Innings

After beating Greenfield in back to back games by a combined score of 22-0, the Breakers use a 3 run ninth inning to beat MTAL rival Carmel 6-4 in extra innings on Friday afternoon [03-28-15].

The Breakers have now played in four games that went into extra innings, winning three of them.

Winning pitcher Eric Boerner was not just solid on the mound for Pacific Grove, but he also had a nice day at the plate. Boerner went 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s, scored 1 run, and hit a home run in the top of the second, to give the Breakers a 1-0 lead.

Pacific Grove would score 1 more run in the third and fourth to go up 3-0 over the Padres. Carmel though, would answer back and score 1 run in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, with Carmel down 3-2, they were able to score a run and force extra innings. With nobody scoring in the eighth, the game moved on to the ninth, where the Breakers would put up 3 runs and hold off the Padres for a 6-4 victory.

Also having good days for the Breakers were seniors Chris Fife and Anthony Coppla. Fife went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI and scored 2 runs, while Coppla went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Pacific Grove (8-1, 5-0) will next play in the Boras Classic in Sacramento against other top teams from Northern California. Their first round game will be against Liberty (6-8, 2-3) from Bakersfield on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played at McAuliffe Field at Sacramento State University. Boras Classic Northern and Southern California Brackets

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm. Click here for more information on the Beach Report Card. Click the name of the beach when it pops up for more details, or choose a beach below.
