• Baseball: Pacific Grove Opens the Season 2-0

    Pacific Grove kicked off the 2015 baseball season last weekend against two teams from the Central Valley, Joseph A. Gregori (Modesto) and Escalon.

    The Breakers beat Joseph A. Gregori 3-0 on opening day, behind great pitching and timely hitting. Eric Boerner, the winning pitcher, pitched four scoreless innings and only gave up two hits for the Breakers. Nic Boatman came on for relief in the fifth inning, giving up four hits and no runs in three innings of work.

    Chris Fife scored two runs, while Anthony Coppla and James Donlan each had an RBI in the Breakers victory.

    The Breakers faced off against Escalon, who has won three of the last five Sac-Joaquin Section Division V Championships, on Saturday afternoon, winning 6-3.

    Dan Harrington led the Breakers in their 6-3 victory over the Cougars. In four innings of pitching, Harrington gave up 2 hits and 1 earned run, and was the winning pitcher. On the offensive side, Harrington was just as good, if not better. Harrington went 2 for 3 at the plate, with a home run and 4 RBI’s. Accounting for 4 of the Breakers 6 runs.

    At the end of the first inning, the Breakers found themselves down 1-0. The batting however, kicked into gear, as they scored 6 runs in the next three innings of play, to go up 6-1. A late attempt at a rally was halted by the Breakers, as they held on for the victory, to move to 2-0 on the season.
