• CHP seeks help to identify driver and vehicle involved in hit and run collision

The California Highway Patrol, Monterey Area is requesting the public’s assistance to locate a vehicle and driver associated with a hit and run traffic collision.

On May 7, 2013 at 3:45 PM, 48-year-old Robert Cruz of Watsonville was riding his bicycle out of a driveway on Salinas Road, north of Werner Road, when he was struck by a car that was traveling south bound on Salinas Road.  Mr. Cruz succumbed to injuries suffered as a result of the collision on Saturday, May 25 at a Bay Area Hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing Mr. Cruz leave his driveway onto Salinas Road, directly into the path of a south bound vehicle, which was described as a 90’s model Honda Sedan, possibly an Accord, tan in color.  A windshield wiper located at the scene is believed to belong to the involved vehicle.  In addition to a possible missing windshield wiper, the vehicle was reported by witnesses to have damage to the windshield.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision or have information on the involved vehicle’s whereabouts is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol Monterey Area Office at (831) 796-2100.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm. Click here for more information on the Beach Report Card. Click the name of the beach when it pops up for more details, or choose a beach below.
