Monterey City Manager Mike McCarthy has named Assistant Police Chief Dave Hober to the position of Interim Police Chief, effective May 2, 2015. Hober will lead the Monterey Police Department following the retirement of Chief Phil Penko after 30 years of service.

Chief Hober has graduate degrees in both Criminal Justice Administration and Public Administration from San Jose State University. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Political Science from San Jose State University.

The City of Monterey will hold an open recruitment for the position of Police Chief. The City also is recruiting police officer positions. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the City’s Human Resources Department.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
