• City Worker Union Files Charges Against City

United Public Employees of California, the union that represents City of Pacific Grove workers, has filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the City. Papers were filed on Fri., Jan. 31.

The union alleges that the City violated its obligation to bargain, meet and confer, exhaust impasse procedures, and provide public information under the California Government Code regarding turning over city services to private contractors.

If the City hands over management of city services to a private business, the city gives up control over how those services will operate,” said Chris Darker, business manager for the union.

Pacific Grove City Manager Tom Frutchey said that the matter has been turned over to City attorney David Laredo and agendized for closed session at the next City Council meeting, Feb. 5. “Only with advice from the City Attorney will the Council take any action,” he said.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm. Click here for more information on the Beach Report Card. Click the name of the beach when it pops up for more details, or choose a beach below.
