• Driver Sought in Fatal Seaside Crash

A crash Friday night at 6:30 p.m. has left a 22 year-old Seaside woman dead and a 24 year-old Salinas man with moderate head injuries. The driver of the 2005 Nissan Titan truck, a 20 year-old Salinas man, fled the scene on foot.

The crash happened at northbound Highway 1 and Canyon Del Rey (Hwy 218) in Seaside. The truck flipped on the side of Hwy. 1, rolled down the embankment, and landed upside-down on the offramp to SR-218. The woman was ejected and landed 60 feet from the truck. She died on the way to the hospital. While the driver was wearing a seatbelt, the two passengers were not.

“We now believe that alcohol is a factor in this collision,” said Jaime Rios, California Highway Patrol.

Anyone with any information on the incident should call the Highway Patrol at 831-796-2197.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm. Click here for more information on the Beach Report Card. Click the name of the beach when it pops up for more details, or choose a beach below.
