• It’s manslaughter in death of PG dad

Deborah King, a former corrections officer, has been convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter in the death of Joel Woods, a Pacific Grove father she ran into as he entered his vehicle in front of Pacific Grove Middle School. Woods was there to pick up his son, Jacob, who had become ill.

The prosecutor had sought a second-degree murder verdict. King was driving under the influence of prescribed pain killers and anti-anxiety drugs, and had been arrested on similar charges a number of times previously.

Whether murder or manslaughter, the sentence will be the same: 15 years to life in prison because of the previous convictions.

Cedar Street times invites you to read the account of the verdict in the Monterey Herald as it is a more detailed version than we can provide.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
