• Lacrosse: Carmel Routes the Breakers 19-2

    – Jon Charron –

Pacific Grove opened up league play with an 8-5 victory over Palma. But Carmel, the defending MTAL champions, scored quickly and often on their way to a 19-2 victory over the Breakers on Tuesday afternoon [03-17-15]

“They didn’t play their best game,” Pacific Grove head coach Fran O’Hagan said after his team lost. “But the Carmel team is a wonderful team.”

Carmel wasted no time in scoring two goals as fast as the match started. The Padres held a 5-0 lead over the Breakers after one quarter of play.

After falling behind 7-0, Anthony Allen was able to put the Breakers on the board with a goal, Allen’s first of the season.

Breakers goalie Eli Swanson, who had a tremendous game against Palma, was swamped the whole game by Carmel shot attempts. Swanson was able to grab a few good saves, to stop the Padres from doing more damage.

Scoring the Breakers other goal was Kane Miller, who scored midway through the third.

O’Hagan stated that “the objective for this team this year is not to win championships, but for them individually to get better every game and for the team to get better every game all the way to the end of the season.” The Breakers are a young team, and as O’Hagan pointed out, “Nine of thirteen starters are sophomores.”

Overall, O’Hagan said that he is pleasantly surprised of how his team is playing at this point in the season. “This is our sixth game, and we’ve won four. We will win many more and probably lose a couple more. But I’d say they’re on track to achieve their objectives, which is to get the team better and the individual.”

The Breakers (4-2, 1-1) will look to build on this victory, as they play at Soquel (0-1, 0-1) on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
