• Monterey Police Hiring

    For the first time since 2007, the Monterey Police Department has opened recruitment for Police Trainee. Applicants selected for this position will be sent to the Police Academy. Upon successful completion of the six month academy, the Trainees will be promoted to Police Officer and will begin a rigorous four month field training program.

    The Trainee position is a non-sworn, entry-level position that will be paid an hourly wage and receive only the mandatory benefits as required by law. Registration for the Academy and all uniforms, equipment and supplies will be supplied by the Department.

    The closing date for the Trainee position is September 19, 2014. Oral Panels for the Trainee position are tentatively scheduled for the first and second weeks of October, 2014.

    The Department has also opened recruitment for Lateral Police Officers, Academy Graduates and Academy Attendees. These are candidates who have already been to a Police Academy and once hired, would be placed in the field training program. This recruitment will be continuous and there will be oral panels approximately once a month beginning in September, 2014.

    The minimum qualifications for both positions are the same:

    Any education equivalent to graduation from high school;

    Be at least 21 years of age;

    Not have any felony convictions;

    Be able to pass a comprehensive background;

    Possess a valid California Driver’s License at time of appointment; and

    Be a United States citizen or have permanent resident alien status and applied for citizenship.

    For more information on both of the job descriptions and to apply online interested candidates can go to http://www.monterey.org or stop by the Human Resources Department at 735 Pacific Street, Suite B, Monterey, to pick up a flyer. There are computers in the lobby for use by applicants.

    This is a great opportunity for community members who have a desire to become a Monterey Police Officer, but may not have been able to attend the intensive police academy on their own.

    This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
