• Southbound San Juan Road Interchange Onramp Opening to Traffic Monday, May 4

Caltrans and Granite Construction Company will open the new southbound San Juan Road Interchange on-ramp on the morning of Monday, May 4. With the opening, all four ramps of the interchange will be open to traffic.

By 6 a.m. Monday, May 4, crews will open the new southbound Highway 101 on-ramp to traffic. The opening will allow southbound drivers to use the new interchange when traveling from: San Juan Road, Dunbarton Road, Ballantree Lane, The Red Barn, Marilyn Lane.

The opening removes the need for access to southbound U.S. Highway 101 at Dunbarton Road. As a result, access to and from Dunbarton Road at southbound U.S. Highway 101 will permanently close.

Directional signs and changeable message boards will be in place to help direct drivers.

The San Juan Road Interchange Project is currently scheduled for completion this summer.

The $69 million San Juan Road Interchange Project will remove three major at-grade intersections (San Juan Road, Dunbarton Road, and Cole Road) and replace them with a new interchange near the Red Barn at San Juan Road and U.S.101. The project is supported by $10 million from the Recovery Act and $28 million from Proposition 1B, a 2006 voter-approved bond. In total, nearly $15 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.

More than 60,000 vehicles daily travel through the U.S. 101/San Juan Road area.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
