• Youth Volleyball Coach Arrested on Sex Charges

The Monterey Police Department has arrested a local volleyball coach for multiple sexual crimes with a minor. Mathew James Nuttall, a 20 year old male, was arrested on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at his Monterey residence in the 400 block of Belden. The arrest followed an investigation by Monterey Detectives that began earlier in the week. Nuttall was charged with unlawful sex with a minor, oral copulation with a minor, contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual act, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and annoy or molest a minor. He was booked at the Monterey County Jail and has since been released on bail.

Monterey Detectives are concerned that there might be more victims due to Nuttall’s association with minors through his coaching. Nuttall is associated with the City Beach Monterey Bay Volley Ball Club, which is an afterschool club league, and has coached at the International School of Monterey.

Anyone who may have been victimized by Nuttall or who may have information on other victims is asked to call the Monterey Police Department at 831-646-3830.

This is the Heal the Bay Beach Report Card for Monterey Peninsula beaches, which reports water quality grades, or when relevant, weather advisories. An A to F grade is assigned based on the health risks of swimming or surfing at that location. Look at the "dry" grade for all days except those "wet" days during and within 3 days after a rainstorm.
